3.11 Experience & Levels
Experience in Starmourn is a quantifiable measure of your progression as a player. You start with 0 experience and, by completing various tasks, gain experience points (or XP), which in turn help you to advance in level. Levels in Starmourn go from 1 to 75. Each time you gain enough experience to advance to the next level, you will find that your maximum health increases, and you gain 75 lessons (see HELP LESSONS for more), and a certain amount of stat points (see HELP STATS). At various levels you will also be granted bound credits (see HELP CREDITS): Level Bound Credits Level Bound Credits -------------------- --------------------- 7 5 45 13 10 6 50 14 15 7 55 15 20 8 60 16 25 9 65 17 30 10 70 18 35 11 75 19 40 12 Gaining and Losing XP --------------------- The primary means of gaining experience are by completing quests and through combat, both with players as well as NPCs. There are other activities which have their own subtype of experience, however: captaincy and hacking. It is possible to lose XP through death. If you lose enough XP, you may drop in level. To minimize this effect, however, the best course of action is to quickly return to the location where you died and retrieve the INR from your corpse. It can be a little unnerving, but will restore most of the XP you lost upon death. See HELP DEATH for more details on this! Groups and XP Sharing --------------------- Groups who work together while fighting NPCs share the experience gained and receive bonus XP for their teamwork: 10% for all groups, increasing to 30% if there is at least a 30 level difference between the highest and lowest level player in the group. The total XP awarded is then divided up between every member of the group based on their respective levels, with each player who contributed getting a minimum 10% share. Some examples: -Two level 50 players group together to fight level appropriate enemies. They both get 55% normal experience (half of 110%). This is slightly better than either player could do solo. -Two level 30 players and three level 20 players all group up together. The level 30s both get 27.5% normal XP (a quarter of 110%), while the level 20s all get 22% (a fifth of 110%). This is calculated by dividing each individual's level by the sum of all of their levels. -A level 60 player takes a level 5 player to fight level 60 enemies. The former gets 117% of the normal XP reward (nine tenths of 130%) while the latter gets 13% (a tenth of 130%) of the XP for a level 60 enemy - still considerably more than 100% of the XP given for a 5th level enemy. XP sharing happens automatically and does not depend on being in the same crew or on following one another. Instead, a player must be in the room when the NPC dies AND have done any amount of damage to it. As a result, it is not possible to follow someone else who is hunting and gain XP without helping. Likewise, 'kill stealing' isn't a thing in Starmourn - the XP will be distributed as if you were working together, instead of going entirely to whoever got the last hit in.
