8.5.8 The ShipModding Skill
Shipmodding is a crafting tradeskill dedicated to the art of researching powerful mod effects and installing them into ships. Anything from improving your ship's turn time to the efficiency of the ship's ore crushers is covered here. For a list of ship mod effects, consult MOD EFFECT LIST SHIPMODS. Like weapon and armor mod effects, ship mod effects must first be researched in a workshop and parts for their construction must be accumulated. For more on this process, see HELP WORKSHOPS. To install ship mods into a ship, you must first board the ship and MOD INSTALL <effect> INTO SHIP AT <level>. Up to 6 different mod effects and up to 60 levels worth of effects can be installed into a single ship at one time, and they can be viewed with SHIP DETAILS MODS. You do not need to own the ship in order to mod it, but if it is not your ship the owner of the ship must be present and they must AGREE to the installation of the modification. The larger the ship, the more parts it costs to install. Ship mod effects do not decay, but such aftermarket modifications are also not covered by insurance, meaning that if a ship is destroyed, it loses all of its mod effects. Ships are delicate systems, and as such most ship mod effects come with a penalty. For a detailed summary of mod effects, consult MOD EFFECT INFO <effect>.
