9.20 Pirate Refineries
Starmourn Sector is expansive, too much so for the various authorities in the sector to possibly be expected to police it all. This lack of complete oversight has provided the opportunity for a multitude of rogue organizations to crop up and establish seedy businesses practically everywhere. Fortunately, the illicit nature of these installations means that they're ripe for the plundering, provided you have the firepower and know-how necessary to handle their security. Locating A Pirate Installation ------------------------------ It's impossible to keep track of the total number of illegal operations in Starmourn, as they rise and fall day to day, but it's very possible that you'll happen to stumble upon one as you're out flying around the sector. The most common installations you'll notice are pirate refineries and autofactories, easily detectable by your ship's beacon, should one be in range. However, word does manage to make its way around the sector. Periodically, the gossip will make its way to a station, where you can check the currently known list of pirate installations via STATION PIRATE REFINERIES. Naturally, if the whole sector knows about it, the installation will have far less to plunder. Neutralizing A Pirate Installation ---------------------------------- Each pirate autofactory and refinery is protected by a series of defensive platforms. They will deploy as soon as an installation is attacked, so be prepared to destroy those first if you want a chance at the loot inside. Once the platforms have been destroyed, you can either dock at the installation to overload its systems via a HACK, or simply blow it up externally with your guns. The latter method is certainly faster, but will result in less cargo. Competition ----------- You're not the only one interested in these illicit properties. Whenever an installation comes under attack, interested spacers across the sector will get notified, and the pirate installation's entire zone will become a free-for-all (Open PK) until combat has ended or it's been destroyed. Be prepared!
