7.1 Combat Basics
If you are reading this for the basics of one-on-one combat (PvP or PvE but not ship-v-ship) then please continue! For combat via space ship, see HELP SHIP COMBAT. To begin with, you have a specific amount of health and, when that runs out, you die. Much of combat depends on your ability to prevent that from happening (see HELP HEALTH). When you're fighting in Starmourn, you will take damage from your enemy's attacks, which lowers your health. But you may also be attacked with afflictions, which are short-term inconveniences such as blindness or hallucinations (see help AFFLICTIONS). Health management throughout the Starmourn Sector makes use of a network of microscopic machinery laced throughout the body. This is called "wetwiring," a Bushraki technology that has become commonplace among all races and communities. Your wetwiring system will heal you automatically, curing some health or an affliction approximately every five seconds. Wetwiring is entirely self-contained and does not need to be tweaked or configured regularly. In fact, the only configuration option you have is to select if you want to prioritize curing health, curing afflictions, or healing your internal systems (see HELP WETWIRING). Attacks, including afflictions that cause no damage, can also cause damage to your internal systems. You have five of these: Muscular Internal Sensory Mind Wetwiring As each of these systems is damaged, you will be hit with new afflictions at certain damage thresholds. These new afflictions are generally more severe, and can only be cured when that system has been healed back over the threshold where it was given. The last thing you need to know about is feedback. Each system, if damaged enough, can cause afflictions that will, in turn, affect other systems. If left unchecked, you'll be dead in no time! You'll need to stay on your toes and mend your subsystems strategically, all while fighting for your life (see HELP SUBSYSTEMS).
