That's right, a flakking combat tournament.
Buried the ghost dancer with some high-rollers at Haxley's Casino the other day -- long and short of it is we put some real heavy marks down on who the best combatant in the Sector is. Some people think the best combatant has to come outta Sorrow Company, others say the Dominion (what with all their Strength and Unity business), and some other crazies think Ascendancy.
"Flakk it," I said, "MogiCorp is hosting a tournament." Yeah, we're going to settle it. We're going to find the Champion of Starmourn.
So I had a chat with some combatants I saw hanging around the arena, said they'd contribute some of their marks to a prize pool. So the prize pool sits at 150,000 marks. Yeah, that's right, ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND MARKS. 100,000 of that comes from Dr. Ata Aurazi, Nykara Sa'rogue, and Vianou Dreya, equal split. The rest comes from MogiCorp and a whole lotta bloated swampscum at Haxley's. Chip in more if you wanna be famous.
Matches will be 1v1 and take place in VR. The prizes will be distributed among the first, second, and third place finishers. But what the flakk do combatants care about marks anyway. What they're really after is the title of Champion of Starmourn. Everyone is eligible to sign up, no matter their MIL. If we have lots of lower MIL people I'll look into a separate league for 'em.
So sign up! You got nothing to lose and glory (and marks) to gain.
Now let's get on to the details:
Format:
The tournament will consist of two stages. In the first stage, contestants will be randomly seeded into groups with approximately 6 contestants in each group. Each contestant will fight every other contestant in their group in a round robin, scheduling their matches on their own time. The top contestants from each group will then be placed in a single elimination bracket and fight a best of three series. The bracket will be a round of 4, round of 8, or round of 16, depending on the total number of registered contestants. The two losing semi-finalists will compete for 3rd place.
Schedule:
Registration - Now until the 24th of Centi, 933 A.E.
Stage 1 (Group stage) - 1st of Deci, 933 A.E. to 24th of Centi, 934 A.E.
Stage 2 (Elimination bracket) - Begins 1st of Deci, 934 A.E. and contestants will have 3 months to complete the current round (i.e. quarter finals, semi-finals, finals).
Rules:
- It's the winner's responsibility to report the outcome of a match to the organizer.
- Contestants are expected to complete their matches in a timely manner as addressed in the SCHEDULE. If you are having difficulty contacting one of your opponents, please inform the organizer, who will reach out to that contestant. Not responding to the organizer in a timely manner will result in a forfeiture of the match. If two parties cannot agree on a time to hold their match, the organizer will arbitrate a time convenient to both contestants. Failure to show up for the arbitrated time will result in a forfeiture.
- In the event that a VR match results in a draw, contestants will have a rematch. If the rematch also results in a draw, they will settle their match in Iota Station.
- Contestants are expressly forbidden from exploiting glitches in VR software which might allow them to unfairly gain the upper hand. Take a recording of your matches, and if you expect your opponent is wittingly or unwittingly doing so, please submit the recordings to the organizer for arbitration. Such rulings may result in a rematch, forfeiture, or disqualification. (OOC: No abusing bugs or exploits which you might have found but haven't been fixed by the devs yet).
